Waxworms are the larvae of wax moths with a high fat content and as a result of which can be craved by insect eating animals! Bearded dragons, geckos, anoles, turtles, frogs, and chameleons, salamanders, and newts all love them. Hedgehogs, sugar gliders, exotic birds, and primates think they are candy! Fishermen know our waxworms as ‘sugar worms’ or ‘waxies’. They prefer them for catching panfish, salmon, and trout in shallow water.
Waxworms may also be stored between 55 and 60 degrees and can develop into dormant
Check day by day for dead worms (they’ll be black) and dispose of cocoons from any that spin one
Great for feeding reptiles, birds, chickens, and for fishing
